History of the Hotel PomMarine

Official Opening - February 1997

The Hotel PomMarine is situated at the former site of the prestigious Marine and Pomeroy Hotels. It took years of hard work and planning, and the unique design was created by local architects and builders.

The Goal: Exceptional Hands On Training and Education

The goal was to combine the College training programme with a functioning hotel, and staff visited other places to study the operations of hotel schools with training hotels.

Distinguished and honourable guests on opening day included Prime Minister Owen Arthur.

The Prime Minister of Barbados had the honour of unveiling the plaque on Saturday, February 8, 1997.

On opening day, Barbados Community College principal Norma Holder welcomed honourable guests to mark the historic occasion.

Mrs. Holder described the occasion as "Another milestone in the life of the college".

The Institute is the only one of it's kind in the Eastern Caribbean, under the leadership of Director Bernice Critchlow-Earle.

Mrs. Earle has been involved with tourism and hospitality training for over 30 years, 20 years of which have been dedicated to the Barbados Community College.
